Corvo Island

Located to the north of Flores, a one hour boat trip takes you to the smallest Azorean island, Corvo. The picturesque town of Vila Nova, with a population of just 400, is a maze of narrow streets called ‘canadas’ that are waiting to be explored. Monte Grosso, the highest point on the island, offers an extraordinary view of the steep volcanic crater walls from which the island was formed.

Corvo is a charming spot of land in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Its white houses are perched high above the sea and a blue lake is found at the bottom of a deep crater. Amongst its green landscapes, you’ll find a population that upholds Azorean traditions.

The interesting cliffs of the “Cavaleiro” and the “Marco” and various other islets scattered near the island provide the coast with a scene worthy of admiration.

A series of small windmills are found along the coast which differ from those on the other islands of the Archipelago. Constructed from black stone, the windmills are outfitted with triangular cloth sails. These windmills have a mechanism which rotates the vault to accompany a change in the wind direction. Upon leaving this small but attractive island, the memory of its landscape and the people that call Corvo home will certainly find a place in your heart. Corvo remains a timeless island and provides unforgettable holiday memories.
